Adding purchases
You can add a purchase by entering its details manually, taking a receipt photo, choosing an image from Photos, or importing a PDF receipt or invoice. Review the information before saving. You can edit purchase details later.
Receipts, PDFs, and documents
Safeguard can save PDF documents and common receipt image formats, including JPEG, PNG, and HEIC/HEIF. Receipt text is read on your device using Apple’s document and text recognition tools. Scanned or unclear documents may not be read correctly, so check and correct extracted details before saving. You can also enter details yourself.
Return dates and warranties
Return deadlines and warranty end dates are saved with the purchase when you enter or confirm them. Safeguard helps you track the dates you save; it does not independently verify a seller’s return policy or determine warranty coverage. Check dates and terms against your original documents and the retailer or manufacturer.
Reminders
If you allow notifications and enable reminders, Safeguard schedules reminders on your device for saved return and warranty dates. Reminders can appear before a deadline. Check that notifications are allowed for Safeguard in iOS Settings if they do not appear.
Warranty Assistant
Warranty Assistant answers questions about a saved purchase using confirmed purchase details and relevant text from documents attached to it. Smart Analysis must be enabled, and availability depends on your device and Apple’s AI services. AI-generated information may be incomplete or inaccurate. Check important answers against your documents and the provider; the assistant does not give legal advice or guarantee warranty eligibility.
Claim preparation
Claim preparation helps organize the issue, purchase facts, and supporting documents into an editable draft. You can review, copy, or share the draft yourself. Safeguard does not submit a claim for you or determine whether it will be approved.
Safeguard Pro
Free use includes up to five active purchases. Safeguard Pro adds unlimited active purchases, Warranty Assistant, and claim preparation. Subscription options and prices are shown in the app for your Apple storefront.
Restore Purchases
In Safeguard, open Settings and choose Restore Purchases to ask Apple to check your subscription and refresh Pro access. Restore is also available in the Pro purchase flow. Apple handles subscription billing, cancellation, and refund requests through your Apple account and App Store.
AI and your information
Purchase records and documents are stored locally on your device. If you use Warranty Assistant or warranty analysis with Smart Analysis enabled, selected purchase facts, your question, or relevant document text may be processed by Apple’s on-device Foundation Models or Private Cloud Compute, depending on availability. The original PDF or image is not sent with a Warranty Assistant question. AI features may be unavailable; you can review saved documents and manage purchases without them. See the Safeguard Privacy Policy for details. Deleting the app may remove locally stored purchase information, so do not delete or reinstall it as a troubleshooting step unless you have considered the effect on your data.
Troubleshooting
- Close and reopen Safeguard if a screen is not responding.
- If a reminder is missing, check notification permission in iOS Settings and confirm the purchase has a saved date and enabled reminder.
- If an import fails, check that the file is readable and is a supported PDF or image. You can enter purchase details manually.
- If Pro access is missing after a subscription purchase, use Restore Purchases in Settings.
If the issue continues, email support with a description of what happened. Avoid including receipts or other personal information unless it is needed to explain the issue.
